Inventors Forum- The Innovations Lab: The Evaluation, Enhancement, and Marketing of Your Inventions

"The Innovations Lab" will take a look at how Cleveland Clinic  inventions are evaluated for clinical and commercial readiness and further developed and packaged for the market. Attendees will hear from CCI Incubator Directors who will discuss the instruments and methods used for each invention disclosure, as well as from industry representatives who will discuss the benefits of assessing fully-vetted and commercial-ready innovations from Cleveland Clinic. Experts will also give inventors advice for how they can optimize their approaches and more closely collaborate with CCI, commercial partners and investors.

86th Annual National Technical Association Conference

"Computational Thinking for a STEM Future"

The National Technical Association is pleased to announce its 86th Annual National Conference. This noteworthy event will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, September 24-26, 2014. This year’s theme is “Computational Thinking for a STEM Future”. We will explore the ways computational tools are affecting every field of STEM and the implications for the future.

The Conference will consist of technically-oriented sessions, informative displays and a Career Fair. Panel discussions, workshops, seminars and the presentation of papers by professionals and students will center on the theme for this conference. Discussions based on this theme will expound on the ideas and methods available to the NTA and the minority populace to assist in training the technical workforce for the future.

Inventors Forum- Planting Your Flag: The Various Strategies of Securing Intellectual Property

A common perception of innovation is that it starts and ends with patents. In reality, there are many ways to protect an invention. In this session, CCI employees and IP attorneys will discuss the nuances between protecting medical devices, therapeutics and diagnostics, health IT, and delivery solutions, as well as the impact of the USPTO's recent implementation of the "First to File" directive. In addition, attendees will learn how the current surge of value-based innovations could affect your IP strategy.

Inventors Forum- Global Impact: Delivering Innovations to Patients via Licenses or Start-ups

Once your innovation has run the CCI gauntlet of evaluations, enhancements, and marketing, it is now time to translate the innovation into a patient-benefitting product or company. In this session, CCI employees, inventors, industry representatives, and investors will discuss the various opportunities and strategies to execute agreements and launch new companies. The session will also feature a selection of case studies that will illustrate negotiation nuances and what inventors can expect when an agreement is executed. Attendees will also hear real-life stories of how patients have benefitted from Cleveland Clinic technologies.

Inventors Forum- Finance & Innovation: Identifying Funding Sources and Innovating for the Bottom Line

Perhaps the biggest reasons inventions never make it to market are rising costs and limited resources for commercialization. As costs continue to be removed from the healthcare, it appears to many that innovation will suffer. In this session, CCI and other outside experts will flip this perception on its head, by examining the unprecedented demand for “value-based” innovation, as well as new creative ways to get the resources needed to get your idea across the finish line.

Attendees will also hear from CCI staff, who will offer an overview of how we work with inventors to not only translate their ideas into products and companies, but also how we work with our colleagues to develop them into seasoned and successful innovators.
