What is it? What does it do?

The CT Gantry Guard is a two-part, form-fitting cover for the gantry, protecting the machine & collecting any fluids that run down onto it.

During many CT scanning procedures there is a high risk of fluids (IV, contrast, bodily) seeping onto the machine. Additionally, there is increasing use of CT in ED settings where patients have been subject to a major trauma that again can result in fluids contaminating the machine. This leads to CT scanner down-time during cleaning, damage to the scanner and loss of revenue to the operator.

Why is it better?

  • Simple and easy-to-use design that includes a pocket to collect fluids before they spill onto the floor;
  • No disruption of workflow – Guard is placed onto the scanner at the beginning of the day and stays on until it is either replaced or the scanner is cleaned at the end of the day;
  • reduction in non-essential scanner down-time due to cleaning of spills;
  • prevention of internal machine damage from such spills;
  • protection of the external cover of the CT scanner.

What is its current status?

The CT Scanner Gantry Guard has been prototyped on a small scale and detailed design drawings are available.
