Top 10 Update: SGLT2 Inhibitors

In 2011, SGLT2 Inhibitors ranked #9 of 10 Medical Innovations slated to change patient care in the year 2012. A novel diabetes therapy, SGLT2 inhibitors represented a paradigm shift in treatment by reducing blood sugar in a totally new way – causing it to be excreted during urination. A once-a-day medication, SGLT2 inhibitors provided an alternative to traditional insulin – which lowers blood sugar by moving glucose into the cells.

AM-PAC User Group Meeting to Accompany MIS2019

The AM-PAC (Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care) Short Forms are a tool used to gather a functional measure of a patient’s mobility, daily activity, and applied cognitive state, whether they are inpatient, outpatient, pre-surgical, or in a homecare setting. This tool, created by Boston University and distributed by Adeo, has users all over the country collecting meaningful data from their patients to improve their care. To help new users better understand the tool, and existing users better utilize it, an AM-PAC User Group Meeting will be hosted in conjunction with the 2019 Medical Innovation Summit.

From Concept to Benchtop Instrument: Using OCT to Study Keratokonus

BJ Dupps, MD, PhD, ophthalmology staff at the Cole Eye Institute, came to Cleveland with a background in bioengineering and a deep interest in applying it to clinical problems in corneal disease and refractive surgery. Thirteen years later, the team has just completed a five year NIH grant that aimed to develop and translate optical coherence elastography (OCE).
