Why Cleveland Clinic is partnering with a manufacturer known for ecommerce
Proto Labs and Cleveland Clinic are jointly developing an awards program to help move novel healthcare ideas forward, says Proto Labs CEO Vicki Holt. The new initiative will be part of Proto Labs’ Cool Idea Award program and will work with Cleveland Clinic Innovations, which says it has executed over 500 licenses and created 75 spin-off companies that have raised over $1 billion in equity investment and commercialization grants since 2000.

Cleveland Clinic, Kent State University and two Cleveland-area companies land Third Frontier grants
Cleveland Clinic and Kent State University both received grants from the Third Frontier's Technology Validation and Start-up Fund, which provides grants to higher education and other nonprofit research institutions "to demonstrate that a technology is commercially viable through activities such as testing and prototyping," with the ultimate goal of licensing the technology to companies.

Cardinal Health officially launched the CoolSource™ Cooling System, a vest that was invented by Jill Byrne, MSN, RN, CNOR, and PhD student at Case Western Reserve University. Byrne sought to ease the distress of fellow OR clinicians and surgeons caused by excessive heat in the operating room. She saw first-hand how heat in the OR affected her team every day.
