The aging U.S. population combined with an increasing trend toward consumerization and patient attribution has led to an overworked, under-resourced U.S. primary care physician workforce. Never-ending patient visits and unbearably long wait times have physicians burnt out and patients fed up. In order to ensure the highest quality of care to the greatest number of patients, the system needs a change. Experts from across the healthcare landscape have suggested nonconventional solutions, from non-physicians operating at the top of license for increased patient access, to telemedicine and wearable technologies bringing a new definition to “face time”, solutions to this crisis exist.
